6-11-21 THOUGHTS

We are given the idea of “GOD AS OUR SHELTER” is found in various places in God’s Word.  It is a most comforting thought.  Often it is the picture of a mother bird sheltering her brood under her wings.  What a comforting scene.  The SHADOW idea is given to us for shelter, refuge and comfort!  God’s  desire is to protect us.

Luke 13:34   "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [the city] that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen [gathers] her brood under her wings, and you would not [have it!]
Ps 36:7   How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
Ps 91:1  He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
Isa 51:16   "I have put My words in your mouth and have covered you with the shadow of My hand, to establish the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’"
Ps 63:1-8     « A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. » O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.  2  Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. 3 Because
Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. 4  So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
5  My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.  6  When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches,  7  For You have been my help, And
in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. 8  My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.
Ps 61:3   For You have been a refuge [shelter]  for me, A tower of strength against the enemy.
Isa 48:17   Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, "I am the LORD your God,
who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way you should go.

It’s a tender picture of parental love and the need to protect the object of its love. It’s an overwhelming desire for the good of the one being loved.  God looks at us in this way!  We should develop the same overwhelming desire to serve in love, the ONE WHO LOVES US SO!

My Prayer:
O God of heaven and earth, we thank you for the marvelous pictures of your love for us, that you have revealed to us in your Word.  From the depths of our heart, we praise you for the place of love in the wise design of your creation.  Teach us more of your love.  May we show this world your love by loving!  We are so grateful to live under the shadow of your wings.
In the name of Jesus            Amen
